Clean it right. Keep the season you've built.
Carbon steel gets better with every cook. But only if you clean it right.
The wrong tool — steel wool, abrasive pads, or standard synthetic sponges — strips the seasoning you've built and can release microplastics into your food and water. The Yahgan Care Kit is the right tool.
The chainmail scrubber is not like others you've seen.
Most chainmail scrubbers use large 8mm rings. Ours uses precision-welded 3.8mm rings — delivering over 4× more contact points per cm². More contact means better pressure distribution across the surface, so you scrub effectively with less force. It lifts stuck-on food and residue without scratching the pan or disturbing the seasoning underneath.
Made from 316L marine-grade stainless steel — the same specification used in surgical instruments. Every ring is welded, not pressed or riveted: no weak points, no rust, no cracking. It will outlast every synthetic pad you've ever bought. And unlike those pads, it releases zero microplastics. The chainmail itself is dishwasher safe — the easiest way to keep it hygienic forever.
It's not just for your pan. Use it on chopping boards to lift stubborn food fibres. On baking dishes and pots to remove baked-on residue. On kitchen surfaces where a cloth won't cut it. One tool, the whole kitchen.
The beechwood brush with natural sisal bristles is the perfect partner to the chainmail.
The bristles sit in a sweet spot — soft enough to work up a proper lather from regular dish soap, firm enough to lift food residue on their own for lighter cleans. No synthetic plastics, no toxins, no microplastics. A complete, all-natural alternative to the yellow-and-green sponges you've been replacing every few weeks.
But here's the technique most people miss: use the brush on top of the chainmail. Press the brush head down onto the chainmail as you scrub. You get perfectly distributed, even pressure across every ring — and your hand never has to grip the chainmail directly. More control, better results, zero discomfort.
The chainmail stores in the included natural cotton drawstring bag — dry, hygienic, and easy to hang. Everything arrives in a compact branded Yahgan box. The complete care routine, in one kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the chainmail damage my pan's seasoning?
No. The chainmail is specifically designed for carbon steel and cast iron care. If used correctly, the fine 3.8mm rings remove food and residue without scratching the seasoning layer. This is why chainmail scrubbers are the standard tool recommended by carbon steel and cast iron cookware brands worldwide — they clean without stripping.
How do I use and store the chainmail scrubber?
Start by letting your pan soak with warm to hot water for a few minutes after cooking. In most cases that's all the prep you need — a little warm soapy water and the sisal brush will handle your daily clean with no effort. The chainmail is for when you need more: stubborn crusty bits from cooking proteins at high heat, or anything the brush won't shift. When you do use it, apply without pressure and let the rings do the work — placing the brush head on top of the chainmail as you scrub is a great technique that distributes pressure evenly across the mesh without your hand ever having to grip it. Rinse the chainmail thoroughly after use and shake it dry. The hanging ring lets you suspend it somewhere ventilated so it dries completely between uses.
What is 316L stainless steel and why does it matter?
316L is a marine-grade stainless steel. It is exceptionally resistant to corrosion, including from salt, heat, and repeated water exposure. It's the same specification used in surgical and marine applications. For a kitchen scrubber that will be in constant contact with water, it's the right material choice.
Can I use this kit on non-stick pans?
No. The chainmail scrubber is designed for uncoated cookware — carbon steel, cast iron, and stainless steel. Using it on a non-stick or coated surface will damage the coating. For non-stick pans, use a soft sponge only.
What is sisal and why is it used instead of synthetic bristles?
Sisal is a natural plant fibre from the agave plant. It is naturally stiff, durable, and biodegradable — no plastics, no synthetic materials. Consistent with the Yahgan approach to cookware: the fewer chemicals and synthetics in your kitchen, the better.
